I've been a Stones fan since I was six when my dad used to play Beggars Banquet for me. The first piece of recorded music that I ever bought was the 45 for "She's So Cold". Anyway I shook hands and said Hi to Kieth at a record signing once and he asked me my name and was real nice. But the thing that sticks out in my mind is the time a little while back when the Stones did a press meeting to kick off the Bridges to Babylon tour. I heard about it that morning on the radio and I decided to walk down to the Brooklyn Bridge where it was being held at a restaurant and snoop around to catch a peek at Keith and Charlie.
Anyway the security was tight and all the windows were covered over, so I figured I had wasted my time. I got a tuna sandwich and sat on the curb about half way down the block. All of a sudden this red Caddy convertible comes cruising around the corner with a full police escort. All the people who were waiting around had, for some reason, congreated on the! corner, so by the time they saw the car it was already moving past them. But here I was holding this fucking tuna sandwhich ,all alone, with the car heading right at me.
Mick was driving and Keith was sitting shotgun with a huge boombox on his lap. I don't really remember what I had said but I think it amounted to something like "Hey Keith Yeahhh!" As the car drove by he sat up and leaned out of the car and high fived me as they went by. I was just laughing and jumping around but after a second the mob in pursuit of the car converged on the spot where I was and pushed me back to the curb. But I didn't care, for the rest of the day I was walking around with this shit eating grin on my face. When someone asked me why I was in such a good mood I blurted out "Oh I High Fived Keith Richards this morning!" That got me a laugh in the face I can tell you that.
