You can’t predict much about this CD just by looking at the cover. I took one look at it and thought it was hardcore. But it really isn’t. Well, it does have the screamed vocals (imagine the spit flying!), the grinding guitars, and such. But musically Gryn have enough thrash in them to please a much larger crowd. And they certainly have some cool, catchy riffs. Secondly, you expect the usual hate filled message dripping with attitude, and while that may yet be the case, you find a great deal more in the lyrics than what is on the surface. Philosophy and theology have a part in the writing, though frankly you cannot be sure if these guys are neo-Nietzschian nihilists or Christians. Of course, Nietzsche wasn’t really a nihilist, but most pseudo philosophers don’t know that. Anyway, with this band it could go either way. In summary, Gryn’s album “Our New Earth” is a surprising release with thought provoking lyrics and memorable music.
