I saw this too and thought the same thing about Emerson. What Emerson
doesn't notice is that his bird is just whistling stuff he's already heard.
Could be the next Keith Emerson recording will sound a lot like Keith's old
stuff or maybe he'll unknowingly plagiarize something else. Did you see the
Grand Funk thang too? How could those guys have been so stoopid! Terry
Knight certainly took them for a ride.

Emerson the Parakeet 1995-1995

A Poem for Emerson

Emerson, you silly bird...you've left us in the lurch!
You only lasted three days before falling off your perch!
At first it was a crushing blow (though now we are much calmer),
And still we have your cage-mates: the feathered "Lake" and "Palmer".
So Emerson you leave behind this simple legacy:

Okay, I agree. And there's not too much to be said against modern technology.
It's just that I found out (purely for myself) that I love playing the guitar
(whether electric or acoustic) the way I explained it, because it gives me a
buzz. It's organic. I feel I'm actually doing something...playing the guitar...
producing something (not just reproducing something or tapping gadgets on the
rack with my foot, that sort of thing). I personally like to keep it simple. If
the sound is raw, it's mine. I don't like stuff which is too polished. That's
why I love records/CDs which are in the demo stages. They're usually rougher,
edgier and more honest.
BTW: can anyone tell me how much a 6-string Martin acoustic (average-priced
model) costs in the US? Too damn expensive here in Germany. That'd be
appreciated.

make it to digest 2000 before New Years? If we just stuck to GG,

See, Karen, that's what I have problem with. Somehow, the line-up that you call
"magical" (and I agree whole-heartedly) just couldn't be repeated. Granted, Mick
Box and Lee Kerslake are original members. But as with, say, the Who it HAD TO
BE a particular line-up that let the band truly shine (despite their many
detractors!). But from what I hear, we are supposed to be in for a Ken Hensley
box set (?). Can you confirm this at all?

Sorry for interfering, but I have to say that Camel maintained a constant high
level of quality. re: I can see you house from here, Live, Breathless (my
favourite) and even the most recent stuff. Live? Absolutely no disappointment! I
saw them some years ago - being highly skeptical - but there was no reason to.
Somehow, they seem to always be able to pull it off - IMHO!

Yours still heep-ingly,
Carsten the Krautmeister

P.S.: Karen, I got this back stating terminal mail delivery failure. Can you
check on this, please? So I posted it via O-R...which is what it is for anyway.

If memory serves me right, this was shortly after the Battle of Hastings,
wasn't it? Oh yes, I remember them well, them days. Wikkid, m'Lady, wikkid!

My TicketMaster info tells me Colosseum play the Astoria on October 8th.
I notice that in the same little booklette that Jeff Beck appears to be
 playing
Shepherds Bush Empire on October 9th. >>

Doh! Of course you realised I meant October.

This is going to be a tough call. Colosseum followed by Jeff Beck or GORGG ??

Subject: gg: procrastinating on promised posts

_Am I FINALLY posting that Richard Leo Johnson concert review?! Or
perhaps this is the email which will reveal my new worst prog GG
song?... actually, this late night post is about Spock's Beard :-) I
am still too tired/swamped to compose the others quite yet (work is
kicking my ass). I apologize for the delays.

HOWEVER, in the meantime, here is some Spock's Beard info.

I am not that familiar with Spock's Beard (save for what I've read, and
heard on spinner.com or netradio progressive rock channels). Last
Sunday night at the radio station, while going through a table of
promos and singles, I came across the first single "SKIN" from the new
Spock's Beard cd. I listened to it once, and then played it for Clyde
Clifford. I realize it is a single, and not necessarily indicative of
the band or album as a whole. But I gotta say that we were not all
that impressed with it. The accompanying press/promo release letter
from the label METAL BLADE was an interesting read, however. Here is
what it said:
"Dear Radio Programmer,
Remember the time when Yes, Genesis, and ELP ruled the airwaves?
Remember the time when Pink Floyd, Rush, and Queensryche were the only
progressive bands left on radio? Well now you have to add the name
SPOCK'S BEARD to the list of progressive rock bands ready to assault
radio. With the release of their new album 'Day For Night', Spock's
Beard has made progressive music the new alternative. Check out the
first single 'SKIN' to see what I mean. Strong musicianship (members
have performed with Eric Clapton, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Tears For
Fears), well crafted songs and strong harmonies highlight this song. We
are going for adds on August 9 & 10. Contact Kevin Rose in our NYC
office at 212-477-6211 or Lee Arnold at 414-351-9088"

Goodnight!

A few.
As a marketing strategy it sucks.
First. How old is the average Radio Programmer over there? Do the first
couple of questions set themselves up for a resounding response of "No".
Second. Even if they did remember, did they actually *like* it? Again, a good
chance of a negative response.
Third. The references to Clapton et al are fine for a band bio but, for the
reasons outlined above, probably not as a means of getting a contemporary
radio programmer interested.

You could summarise the press release thus: 'Play this, it's a bit like some
stuff that some people liked 20 years ago'.

I would suggest that they need to define their own ground, their USP, in
contemporary terms and push that in language that the recipients will relate
to. No one ever achieved standout by announcing "We're wannabees!"

Go well,
Si

most definitely...

I love how Jeff Beck cancelled at both Woodstock in the 60's and
Woodstock in the 90's due to "scheduling conflicts".
