Even as I was writing that, I had a feeling it may in fact have come out.
Not sure if we've got it in the States, beyond as an import. Will have to

Do you like it? Did you like "Laughing Stock". It was a real leap for him, I
think. I really liked the general mood it created.
But then - I also loved "It's My Life"!

...and as I wrote in my reply to the same thread, "Days Of Future
Passed" made a profound impression on me. We must take into
consideration that - even if their records sound extremeloy outdated (or
worse) these days - in the late 60s they were quite innovative both in
their use of the orchestra, their "concept album" concepts, and Mike
Pinder's exquisite use of the Mellotron, still unsurpassed to this day IMO.

I think perhaps we can clonclude that it hit so hard because back then
when it was released there was no other rock music like it. It is not so
much whether or not it is the first GG album you hear (for me it wasn't,
I had heard their first).

I was quite "old" when Ibought my 1st album (18 or so) because I have an
older brother with more money and the same musical tastes as me. My
first album was Graham Bond Organization's "There's A Bond Between Us" -
incidentally the first rock album featuring a Mellotron. I still have
it, but it is quite worn out, so I replaced it a while ago with the
double LP (together with "The Sound of 65"). It's still not on CD,
unfortunately.
My first single was Gerry And The Pacemaker's "How Do You Do It".

Anyway, does anyone know the extent of overdubbing on these "live" BBC

I don't have GG in BBC but the BBC DID use overdubs in their "live in
studio" sessions.
The 1969 King Crimson BBC sessions (from the Epitaph box set) have
vocal overdubs. Greg Lake's vocals were double tracked and these
overdubs are mentioned in the booklet.
I assume minor overdubs were standard practice. After all, they were in
the studio anyway, why not use it?

Excellent interview.
I've loved Junior Brown's music since seeing him on the tonight show a
couple of years ago. His playing is virtuosic, melodic and very
intelligent.
Its interesting how he can transform otherwise sappy country songs into
something very musical.
Recomended for those who enjoyed the Hellecasters.

I'd had one or two albums given as birthday and Christmas presents but the
first one I went and bought with my own money, aged six, was "Revolver".
Probably still my favourite Beatles album, if I was forced to choose......
The first album I bought which wasn't Beatles-related was Carole King's
"Tapestry".

First impression is that it's very disappointing. It's mechanical and
fairly soulless, and the songs are almost indistinguishable from one
another. Big lack of dynamic range. This has been the case with the last
five or so Tull albums, IMO. I certainly don't agree with the comments
I've read stating that it's a return to Stormwatch or 'A'. I would
compare it to Catfish Rising.
Having said all this, I've only listened to it twice, once in the car.
However, my wife, who likes the odd bit of recent-ish Tull (Crest of a
Knave, Under Wraps), held similar opinions to me.
Hope that's of some use.

I've got it. I grew up with Chris Welch's Yes reviews and interviews in
Melody Maker (I still have most of them taped to the inner sleeves of the
vinyl albums.)
Personally I thought it verged on hagiography. As a long time Yes fanatic, it
didn't reveal anything much that I didn't already know although some of the

It is a good read though and I'd certainly recommend it.

I do like it but in small doses. As I say, it is even more minimalist (or
should that be less minimalist?) than 'LS' which I liked less than Spirit of
Eden. What is missing, imo, are his melancholy vocal melodies and the tension
and release of SoE.
