The vinyl on the American copies of Phaedra is particularly bad because this and other early Virgin/U.S. releases were printed and distributed by Atlantic (there is much the same problem with early Yes and ELP), there was also the oil crisis which created a shortage of decent quality vinyl. This improved somewhat when the label moved to CBS (Stratosfear). T.Dreams best stuff were the later Virgin albums which have all been remastered for CD and sound very good. Their live albums "Poland" and "220 volt Live" from later years are also excellent (they even won a grammy for their live version of "Purple Haze". Avoid "Cyclone" and "Tyger" if you don't like really lame vocals. It's not as easy to discern the sound of the mellotron by itself with this as it is on the KC stuff. Um, actually Tony's playing that on a two manual Mellotron Mark II, a mix of Brass and 3 violins tapes on his right hand and a bass Accordian tape with his left. So it's all Mellotron. When he played Watcher live with a single manual M400 he would do the left hand part on the Hammond I think. But your point still stands; it's not the best example. He will not be able to catch the flight this Friday which he won in a competition but will have to buy another ticket on a later flight if the Doctors OK it. He was just talking to the Doc as I rang off. Bert's birthday is on the 4th so wish him well and a happy birthday then. One concern of his is that we formulate some plan, or a definite lack thereof, for the evening of the 8th. My impression was that we'd tear up the Quality Inn bar&restaurant but good, but there are other considerations for Long Island types, possibly, and elsewhere types. Say 8:00 pm on friday for the QI, but is there another place, say in Manhattan, that locals will want to collect around 9 or 10? For myself, I don't think I'll have the wherewithal to go Anywhere besides the QI on friday, but Bert has a concern, so whaddya think, locals? Also, anyone nearby that might be able to check out the Restaurant/bar at the QI so we have a clue about it beforehand would be highly admired...
