Metro Stylee - Soul Garage Ska

As I was browsing through various ska web pages, on a boring rainy day. I came across the Metro Stylee web page. A few pictures were displayed on the page as well as sound clips. Me being a fan of girl ska bands, I decided to downloaded the sound clips given, curious to hear what they sounded like. As I began to listen to the short clips, I quickly fell in love with the poppy style and tunes of this band. As I read some information about the band, I found out that they did not have an album out yet, but they did have a demo which you could buy at their shows and they were also on the “Girls Go Ska”compilation. Since they were not playin in my area at the time, I decided to save up my money and buy the compilation. On it they had “Destroy” one of my favorite tunes by Metro Stylee. It was short, but so catchy that I couldn't stop listening to it.
While reading through the village voice concert ads. I found out that Metro Stylee was coming to The Wetlands. I quickly marked my calendar down, I wasn't going to miss this show.
When I saw Metro Stylee at the Wetlands, I was able to get to the front of the stage. Everyone was skanking away, and cheering for the band. I was singing along with Jane Germano, the alto sax player of the band. They were amazing live, with their energy and spirit. At this show I lucky bought the debut album, Soul Garage Ska.
This album contain 14 tracks all which makes you wanna skank all night long. Most of the songs on this album are catchy and very upbeat. Yet there are also some tracks that aren't as upbeat as the rest, but still has a great brass section that gives you the beat to dance. The vocalist of this band has a strong energetic voice. Id have to say that this band has great talent. On one track it has Coolie Ranx from the Pilfers doing his thang. All of the songs are very good. Metro Stylee, straight out of NYC, is an upbeat 3rd wave ska band with great tunes. I recommend this to everyone who likes ska, and I also recommend people to go see them live when they come to your area!
