of darkness (FGBG 4196.AR)
Classic themes in a dark atmosphere. Thus begins this Japanese ladies-trio this fully instrumental album with 'Kali'. In the footsteps of ELP, these three goddesses offend us on all fronts. All the five tracks are impregnated with fat, complex keyboard parts, accompanied by a firm rhythm section and so making a masterpiece. Above all drummer Akiko Takahashi leaves not a single space if it's necessary. With highlights all over the album, the song 'Morgan' remains through it's catchy and simple melody very easily in memory. The main theme of it has a very joyfull character. Next to the always nice sounding mellotron, Keiko Kumagai often uses here Hammond. Bassplayer Kyoko Kanazawa uses regularly a distorted bass-sound, thus creating a heavy performance, which makes a guitar palyer needless. The dissonant notes in the following 'Isis' will be less accessable, just as the last track on this cd. Although the suspense in the beginning of the 'song' is very heavy, even for a practiced sympho-maniac, this instrumental becomes an exciting piece with restpoints and marvelous passages. An album about goddesses, made by goddesses. You feel like a god in Progland. © Symfo City ProgProductions ![]() |
