Chris Barnes - Vocals (Formerly Of Cannibal Corpse)
Terry Butler - Bass (Formerly of Death and Massacre)
Greg Gall - Drums
Allen West - Guitar (Obituary)
In early 1993, Obituary guitarist Allen West phoned then Cannibal Corpse vocalist Chris Barnes in an attempt to get a hold of one of Barnes' band-mates. West was looking for someone to do vocals for some material he had written, yet was not appropriate his band. Barnes offered to do the vocals himself, West approved, so Barnes penned some lyrics for the slow, doomy music. West's friend, and jam partner, Greg Gall got his brother-in-law, former Death and Massacre bassist Terry Butler, to join the band and the 'super group' was formed.
In January 1995, the band finally got a chance to get together and jam and, after signing to Metal Blade records, they entered Morrisound Studios with Brian Slagel and Death Metal producing giant Scott Burns to record their eleven track debut entitled Haunted. Haunted combined the slow, heavy Obituary sound with Chris Barnes' slowed down, beefed up, clean growls and trademark snarls which made him famous.
While on tour with Six Feet Under, Chris Barnes was kicked out of Cannibal Corpse (who has since been replaced by former Monstrosity front-man George 'Corpsegrinder' Fisher), for 'personal and musical differences', thus making Six Feet Under Barnes' full-time band.
In 1996, having recorded two new tracks for an EP and a cover of Judas Priest's 'Grinder' for a Judas Priest Tribute album (the track never made it to the compilation), the band decided to have material recorded from their European tour to add to the EP. The final result was Alive And Dead consisting of two new tracks; 'Insect' and 'Drowning', 'Grinder', 'Suffering in Ecstasy' 'Human Target' and 'Lycanthropy' recorded in Prattland, Switzerland, and 'Beneath A Black Sky' which was recorded in Henglo, Holland.
Six Feet Under then extended their current three album contract with Metal Blade Records to a more lucrative six album deal. Six Feet Under will soon be releasing their second full-length LP in the summer of '97, followed by a world tour, followed by the recording of yet another album. Fans of the band will continue to have something to cheer about, Six Feet Under will be around for a while.
Chris Barnes was supposed to do vocals for Cannibal Corpse's album 'Vile', unfortunately he was given the boot by the band and is now concentrating full time on Six Feet Under.
The cover art for Haunted seems to have been copied (stolen?) from the movie poster for 'The Haunting Of Morella' (starring Nicole Eggert).
Unheard Of, a band comprising of Cannibal Corpse guitarist Jack Owen, Six Feet Under's Allen West and Aeon Spoke's Shaun Malone recorded a song entitled 'Explosion' for Metal Blade Records' 'Guitars That Rule The World 2' which will be released October 22nd.
Six Feet Under will be around for a while. The band has just inked a new six album deal with Metal Blade Records, look for new material in mid-late '97.
The new Six Feet Under full-length LP entitled Warpath is scheduled for an August 25th release date followed by a world tour this fall.
