The Woodstock Rehearsals

A CD by this name has previously been released, under the Midnight Beat label I believe. And while they do contain most of the same tracks, there are a couple differences. Easy Blues, while not actually a part of the Woodstock rehearsals, is a great track. Very jazzy, lots of tasty guitar playing. Sundance comes from a small club in the town of Shokan, where Jimi was renting a house. Just a relaxed jam, with the bass guitar providing the guide, and Jimi and Mitch(?) experimenting around him. Message To The Universe is actually a modified Message Of Love. Beginnings is the Mitch Mitchell tune, and would be performed about a week later at Woodstock. A couple more jam sessions follow featuring sections of well known Hendrix compositions.

Quality on this is improved over the other CD, though perhaps a little over-noise reduced. These recordings make for a good background on the Woodstock era period of Jimi's music, showing him experimenting much more than he had done in the past. Not just with different musicians, but seeing how different styles of music could be brought in and included in his music. Not copied, but integrated into it. The mark of a excellent musician in my opinion.
