Hear My Freedom features more studio jams, mostly recorded at the Record Plant studios, and feature Jimi jamming with other musicians including Buddy Miles, Steven Stills, Steve Winwood, Lee Michaels, and others.
The title track is an alternate take of the kickass one from Mixdown Master Tapes. It's good here, but the other is so much more intense. Now that I think about it, I believe this version is also on Mixdown Master Tapes.
Izabella is a rough take, and features Steve Winwood on piano. Instrumental Jam featuring Larry Young on organ, comes from the Young/Hendrix Jam sessions, part of which would appear on the album Nine To The Universe.
Sending My Love To Linda features Steven Stills of Crosby, Still, and Nash fame on bass, and Dallas Taylor, who would also play with CSN, on drums. A more finished song than what appears on some other releases, which feature only Jimi on unplugged guitar.
The Band Of Gypsys is the lineup for the uptempo Ezy Rider-MLK jam. Rainy Day is the basic working track for the two tracks that appear on Electric Ladyland, Rainy Day, Dream Away and Still Raining Still Dreaming.
They would be overdubbed and separated by the incredible 1983...A Merman I Should Turn To Be track. But you hear the uninterrupted jam on this track. Voodoo Child (Slight Return) is a alternate take of the track from Electric Ladyland.
Quality of this is very good, just a little heavy on the bass side. If you're having a hard time finding Mixdown Master Tapes, this one will hold you over for a bit.
