Recorded on May 17/69, One Night At The Arena features the Experience playing in Providence, Rhode Island. A decent concert, the band's set list was pretty consistant for the most part, with a few changes now and then to spice things up.
Jimi opens with Lover Man, a nice uptempo rocker to get the crowd going. A very long and very nice Red House is featured here, followed by a good Hear My Train. Over 20 minutes of great blues! There seems to be a slight break in Hear My Train, about 3/4's the way through.
Or maybe it's just the microphone being dropped or hit, it's hard to tell. Foxy Lady has some tape speed problems at the start of it and a couple drop outs but settles down after a bit.
Purple Haze, and Voodoo Child (Slight Return) close out the concert, and this CD.
Quality is pretty good on this CD. It sounds as if it's a slight bit fast, but not really enough to notice on casual listening. A little tape hiss is present as well but again, not really enough to distract. The biggest flaws with this recording are with the beginning of Foxy Lady.
Other than that, a pretty good audience recording and a pretty decent release.
