Recorded July 17th at the New York Pop festival, and another in the package of 1970 concerts I received this month.
Though the new band Jimi had assembled earlier in the year was playing near or at it's finest, problems with the construction of Jimi's Electric Lady Studios, disagreement with his manager, and the gruelling touring schedule were beginning to take their toll on Jimi.
A very decent concert, though some audio problems (a radio station being picked up through the amps) cause some problems. One track from this concert, Red House, has come out on the Concerts CD. Incompetance on the part of the promoters led to crowd control problems and near riot conditions.
Jimi would also only play a short set, after seeing the problems in the crowd. So what is left is a very short 50 minute or so set, no real standout tracks other than the previously mentioned Red House, and closing track Voodoo Child (Slight Return).
On a scale of 1 to 10, this would probably rate a strong 7.
For a mono audience recording, quality is surprisingly good, though a little light on bass. I had previously mentioned that there were two tracks missing to completing the concert. This was a mistake, I had been looking at info from another CD containing this concert and it was the one missing the tracks.
This is the complete concert on this disc. Hopefully this is in the Experience Hendrix vaults, as it would make for another nice Dagger release.
