A double CD this time, Redskin Jammin' features Jimi in the studio, jamming with his band and also with some friends. When I first saw the titles of some of these tracks, I thought wow, I've hit the motherload for unreleased stuff!
But reality set in not long after putting the CD in the player. A lot of these I had on other releases, but under different names. But there are a few new tracks, and some different mixes of tracks that I didn't have before.
Highlight of this set is probably the It's Too Bad track, a great slow blues number, and somewhat stark compared to the version found on the Electric Anniversary Jimi CD.
At the end of disc 2 are a number of live tracks. One however, Freedom, which according to the cover was recorded live in England in August 1970, sounds suspiciously like the studio take, with some crowd noise mixed on the beginning and end of the song.
But bonus tracks I'll take whenever I can get them :) Better a dupe or two than losing out on stuff you didn't have already.
Quality is for the most part good, though a number of the tracks can be found in different mixes on other releases, and in somewhat better quality. For the few new tracks on this CD, the Hendrix collector will want to add this to his collection, and ignore the dupes. And the cover is just so cool!
