The album Jimi was working on at the time of his death, The Cry Of Love was never fully completed. It had been rumored to be possibly a triple album at one point, but Jimi had not finished enough songs at the time of his death for this to happen.
While most of the songs on this were complete, or close to completion, needing only a final mix, some were built up some from what Jimi had finished up to that point. So it's probably not, as it is, the album Jimi would have put out himself, but it's probably very close.
Mitch Mitchell, long time drummer and friend of Jimi's, and Eddie Kramer, another longtime associate, were the ones responsible for putting what was there, together. And they did a good job with it. I think Jimi would be proud. A couple versions of this CD, original and remastered, and as with the Reprise remasters, the only way you can tell by looking to see if you have the remastered version, is to look for a little RE-1 on the inside circle of the CD.
These songs would be re-released in 1997, on the First Rays Of The New Rising Sun CD, the title came from one of the possible titles for the album Jimi was working on at the time of his death. So while not a requirement, First Rays being the more wanted CD, this is a fine addition to your collection, although like most older Hendrix releases, out of print.
