A eclectic mix of tracks here on Dante's Inferno; there's some studio stuff, rehearsals, a couple tv appearances, and a live track thrown in for good measure. On the back of this CD, it says the tracks came from the Major Charles Washington collection, an Army buddy Jimi served with, and played in a band with.
I doubt this particular person supplied the tracks here for inclusion on a bootleg, more likely that if they did originate from him, he was sharing them with someone who turned around and supplied a bootlegger. This disc starts off with yet another alternate mix of STPwLSD. And as with most others I've heard, it seems to play back fast.
You Make Me Feel comes from the rehearsals for Woodstock at Jimi's house in upstate NY. Hey Joe is one of the Experience's first appearances on BBC television at the end of December 1966. Young Hendrix Jam comes from one of Jimi's many jam sessions in the studio.
The track shows Jimi and guests just jamming out ideas, seeing if they led to a more structured song. This way of writing would become the norm for Jimi later in his career. This is also (I believe) the longest version of this particular jam available on CD.
Help Me, a track featuring Jimi with King Curtis comes next, but is missing from my CDR copy of this disc, due to time constraints. A very long live Red House, from Minneapolis is a nice treat, though the quality is not the greatest.
Jimi's appearance on the Tonight Show is also included here, where Jimi's amp blows up in the middle of the song! A forgetful Curtis Knight track is next, and the disc closes with the very long jam Message From Nine To The Universe.
A great (in my humble opinion) jam, but unfortunately the quality is only average(see Mixdown Master Tapes for the best version).
Quality on this disc is okay, but could be better. Somewhat muffled, but hey, considering some of the stuff is pushing the 35 year old mark, I guess it could be worse. Not a must have, but an okay addition to your collection.
