Unsurpassed Studio Takes

Another collection of studio outtakes from Jimi's career. The first track, Hey Joe, is from the vocal overdub session for the song. A nice studio version of Lover Man, a track Jimi never released but often performed live, is next. Definitely could have been released officially. All Along The Watchtower is an alternate mix, though it sounds close to the final version. Three Little Bears is the complete jam, unlike what has appeared on many other releases. Very cool, and the last 4 or 5 minutes of the song feature incredible guitar playing by Jimi. Another highlight is the next track, Indian Song (also known as Cherokee Mist) which is Jimi's tribute to his Indian heritage. This is one of the best versions of this track I've heard. Trying To Be, is an early version of Stepping Stone, and features a musical intro from Machine Gun. Crash Landing and Somewhere are the original unaltered versions from the Crash Landing album. Double Guitars is actually the song Bleeding Heart, without the vocals. Astro Man Jam closes this disc, and is a uptempo jam centered around the riff of, what else, Astro Man :)

Very good quality on this CD. Nice and clear, obviously the people who put it together went to the effort to find good sources for these tracks. A nice addition to your collection.
