Jimi Plays Monterey

Occasionally, even the most incompetent person can manage to do something right, usually without meaning to. Which brings us to this Alan Douglas release, featuring The Experience's first performance outside the U.K., at the Monterey Pop Festival. Well known for the closing song, Wild Thing, in which Jimi set his guitar on fire, then proceeded to smash it to pieces. But this release features more than just destruction, it features Jimi back in the U.S., after making it big in England, and ready to show America just what he was capable of. A great performance by the entire band, my personal favorite on this being Jimi's rendition of the Bob Dylan song Like A Rolling Stone. Great sound (an official Hendrix estate re-master may prove me wrong), unedited (a most welcome change from AD's usual butchering), and also features the introduction of the band by Brian Jones, of the Rolling Stones. Definitely worth putting this one in your collection. May be out of print, but should still be easily found in most music stores.
