Midnight Lightning

When Alan Douglas took control of the Hendrix estate, he release two controversial albums; Crash Landing, and this one, Midnight Lightning. Supposedly made up from "found" tapes that had been in storage somewhere, they were in fact *not* new tapes at all. The tracks had been looked at before by Eddie Kramer, the person in control before Douglas, and rejected as being too incomplete for release. So what did Alan Douglas do? He didn't let a little thing like an incomplete tape stop him. He just hired people to come in and play backup to the tapes! He even erased some of Jimi's own guitar, and replaced it by a session player!!! Needless to say, many people were not impressed at Alan Douglas' gall. Sales were very low, the critics' reviews were poor, fans were outraged. Douglas' response to replacing the tracks with backing musicians? The music wasn't up to par. Who the hell was he to judge playing being up to par? And replacing Jimi's own guitar playing with a replacement guitarist??? Well, it took some 20 years, but now he is out of the picture. He still did the same thing, even as recently as `Voodoo Soup' and `Blues', but his reign of terror is finally over :) This one was an import, although I wouldn't recommend wasting your time trying to get a copy, unless you are a completist.
