A nice double CD collection, Diamonds is Jimi in the studio, jamming rough ideas into finished songs. Featuring jams with many notable musicians, including Steven Stills, John McLaughlin, Buddy Miles, Nicky Hopkins, along with regular band members Noel Redding, Mitch Mitchell, and Billy Cox.
These songs are very early in development, and differ greatly from their final versions. But it's interesting to see how songs start from maybe just a small riff in the middle of a jam, into a more developed idea and melody, and then a final version. `Pride Of Man' for example is a very early version of `Power Of Soul'
"Drivin' South", while not as powerful as the version on Radio One/BBC Sessions is still good, especially the John McLaughlin version. If you like jams, I think you'll like this set. If you don't, well too bad, I do :)
