Back To Nowhere

COLUMNS

It only took me 28 minutes to get out of bed this morning. It’s a start. The most insane things are pissing me off today. My travel card is no longer working at the ticket barriers, so I’ll have to get it swapped. I can only do that where I bought it apparently. Do they not file on computers now? I have no doubt in my mind that, instead of using my travelcard to get home, I will buy a new tube ticket tonight and use that instead so I don’t have to walk up and ask to be let through the gates. Other things: The way people stop in the middle of the tube platform so you have to walk around them, muttering “cunt” under your breath, daring them to hear you saying it. The way this rucksack I’m carrying keeps slipping off my shoulder so I have to keep adjusting it every 30 seconds. The way the woman in front of me at the shop takes up the entire counter with her bag and purse, sorting out her change. The man serves me anyway and I nearly drop everything I’m carrying trying to reach over and give him the money. The way the security guard just waits long enough to get out my security pass to use the swipe entry before pressing the button and letting me in himself, thus initiating the under the breath “cunt” mantra again. The way this mouse doesn’t work so well, the arrow sticking where it shouldn’t be and annoying me so much I want to bang the mouse on the desk.

Today is going to be a good day. I can feel it.
