Back To Nowhere
RAMBLINGS
Thursday 23rd May 2002 - Morning
Ah, the pleasures of hangovers. There are none whatsoever. Last night I went
to the Verge to see the Blocko boys play. Nick and Jo were in the pub
beforehand but didn't even come and watch Blocko, much to my surprise -
especially as they were done by 10pm. Oh well! Have a good time on your
travels guys.
Oxbow. Now, this very morning on the Fracture forum I was told to "chill out"
by Scott Stewart after I made a comment comparing their lead singer to a
parasite. As much as I like Scott, telling me to chill out is only going
to wind me up further. The original post from Dr. Graham (I think it
was him that posted it anyway) goes as follows:
"Anyway, just wanted to ask if anyone else had any problems with Oxbow? When we put them on last Friday in Leeds they were total dicks. They weren't appreciative of the fact they were added to the gig last minute. We asked if it was okay to use their backline, since 5 bands meant it would be difficult to change everything over and they said, "No, we don't let anybody use any of our stuff. We're dicks like that."
Then, they went off for food... did they politely ask anyone to keep an eye on their stuff for them, or check if it would be okay to leave their guitars out? Nope, they gave us dirty looks and padlocked everything together right in front of us.
When they came to set their stuff up, they were throwing (yes, throwing!) bits of James' drum kit about and when James asked their drummer to kindly stop it, their singer squared up to him and asked, "Have you got a problem?" !!!
How very DIY of them... fucking Cocks-bow, that's what I say."
Their confrontational lead singer, Eugene, eventually responds with the
following:
"hello. the accused jizzer himself here. just wanted to address the sad and mewling efforts of spackhair and his pathetically misguided attempts to slather us with the same dick brush many men in Leeds reserve for his mother. The fact of the matter was that james, his drummer (so much for your secret identity...), was not only refusing to move because he was disturbed, in that wonderfully entitled way that rich kids have about them, that his band wasn't "headlining" but he went on after the show to pal up to me by telling me in great detail how bands like Dead Inside sucked and how scott stewart sucked and how bands in Leeds in general sucked. He's a cancer. And his bandmates are likewise. shittalkers who went OUT of their way to befriend us and then try to suck some gloss out of it in the aftermath. you miserable toadies. hope to god i don't see you again.
cheers, Eugene"
Firstly, it wasn't spack hair who posted the original and spack hair is a GIRL
for fucks sake. It's no wonder I'm slightly offended by Eugene's post... but
hey, I should chill out eh? Eugene - you're full of shit.
Currently listening to "Free Shit" by Naked Raygun - not a bad live show of
their's this one. They're no better than a lot of other bands to be better but
I bet their live shows were a hell of a lot of fun. In other music news,
Bob Mould is actually SUPPORTING the Flaming Lips over here which is a miraculous
turnaround in the size of his ego. I never thought I'd see the day when Bob
would support someone again... I'm hoping it will be an acoustic show this time
rather than the "Carnival of Light and Sound" which is essentially Bob playing
electric guitar to backing tracks and video. Not entirely unpleasurable but
not overly exciting after the first three songs either. We shall see....
Other stuff:
- New Dillinger Four album out June 3rd apparently.
- Small Brown Bike may be over October / November time.
- Nomeansno at the Underworld on June 28th - my birthday. Buy me a drink.
- American Steel - now split up. Last show was at Gilman on the 18th of May
I believe. R.I.P.
