Although the atmosphere on the terraces was pretty low key, Cray certainly gave Bromley a ‘competitive’ game on the pitch. There were some hefty tackles going in all night and it was good to see Bromley stand up to the test and come out on top by playing some nice football. Bartley had two good chances to put The Ravens up front but was foiled at the last each time, it was the powerful boot of Luckett that saw us take the lead on 6 mins when he drilled in from the edge of the box. On 29 mins Kirk Watts scored a class individual goal for 2-0, cutting in from the left and leaving the Cray defence standing. Drewett was the next to step up to make it 3-0 on 35mins this time coming in from the right and swerving his way to goal.
After the break both sides made multiple changes and Cray came back into the game a bit more. Drewett made his way into the box again and beat keeper Brooks for 4-0, before The Wands scored through Watkins whose long range drive caught Martini off guard on 58 mins. Martini then fumbled a cross and laid the ball on a plate for Joe Vines to head in for 4-2 on 64 mins. Incidentaly this is the third team we’ve played this pre-season who have named Drew Watkins in their squad! There was some nice end to end play from either side, but it was Bromley who added two more goals to the score line through Grant Watts on 64 mins with a nice turn in the box and Luckett who drove a wickedly swerving ball into the roof of the net via the keeper for the final goal on 84 mins. Cray looked a little off their best, but this was still encouraging again as we took the annual battle of Hayes Lane.
