TOOTING & MITCHAM UTD 0 BROMLEY 1 – LEAGUE 2/11/04

Bromley grabbed three vital points at Imperial Fields, showing a great deal of character and team spirit in overcoming difficult opponents and making sure that they kept in touch with the leaders.

The vital moment of the game came on 2 mins when a long Potterill throw caused chaos in the six yard box and debutant keeper Aaron France palmed the ball into his own net under a great deal of pressure from Danny Arkwright and his own defenders. Amoako made sure the ball hit the back of the net, but it was well over the line before he made contact! The long throw tactic caused Tooting all kinds of problems for the whole game and France was lucky not to be penalised for the amount of pushing he was doing to try and get the ball.

Tooting nearly hit back immediately when the broke down the left, but their striker headed against the post when presented with an open goal. Huggins and Amoako both went close for the Ravens as we spent a long time on top, but the Terrors did look dangerous on the break. Just before the break Bennetts had a stunning volley well saved by France who over came his dodgy start.

The second half started with Rose having a clever lob tipped over the bar and the play followed the same pattern of the first period with Bromley on top, but Tooting looking very good on the break. France’s eventful debut saw him handle a back pass and concede a free kick just inside the box, this was turned away for a corner and France made a great acrobatic save from Matt Kember’s header. Tooting had a good shout for a penalty ignored by ref Mr Bentley as they came right back into the game and they had another effort on goal go just wide. Drewett was caught very late and made a retaliation tackle that resulted in a booking as Tooting went on another break. Mr Bentley added on 10 mins injury time, which seemed a little excessive, but Bromley ran the clock out and secured a vital league win. Huggins and Amoako worked tirelessly up front and captain Drewett was an inspiration in midfield. Okafor adapted well to right back and Walker was flawless in goal. This was a team victory.
