TOOTING & MITCHAM UTD 4 BROMLEY 3 – LEAGUE 06/03/04

The game started pretty evenly. New loan signing keeper Glenn Knight made a couple of good early stops, one from ex-Raven David Smith and then came some mad rain and the floodlights had to be turned on! It made a bit of a farce of the game for a while, but it had settled down by the time the Terrors took the lead on 19 mins when a low corner from the left was turned in by the impressive centre back Keith Dublin. On 27 mins Forbes committed a silly handball in the area and the home side went 2-0 from an Adeoye penalty, which Knight got a hand to. Bromley were under incredible pressure and at times looked all over the place, before finally they rallied and made a mini comeback. A poor Luckett free kick deflected for a corner and an equally poor ball in was somehow flicked in by Mark Willy on 35 mins. If it had stayed this way at half time then it would have been up for grabs, but Bromley shot themselves in the foot trying to play the ball out of defence in injury time. Drewett blasted the ball into a Tooting midfielder and it deflected into the path of Adeoye who took his second goal brilliantly for 3-1 at the break.

It was all over on 52 mins when a ridiculous award of a free kick was made worse by Forbes being booked for childishly kicking the ball away, then a Davies curled in an effort from far out on the right into the top corner for 4-1. Referee Peter Yeo was abysmal and left the players and fans perplexed all afternoon with his bizarre interpretation of the laws. Amoako was clearly fouled for a penalty, which, he failed to spot and this summed up our general luck on the day. He also missed a Dublin elbow on George. Smith went close colliding with the post before Zahana-Oni made it 4-2 finishing off a great move involving Falana, Drweett and Luckett with a volley. Potterill hit the post from a Falana knock down. Very late on with fans heading for the exits Luckett put over a ball for Potterill who jumped and managed to turn the ball in for 4-3, which sparked a mad spell in injury time that saw two corners for Bromley, one which was headed just wide by Knight who had come up from his own goal. An equaliser would have flattered Bromley and as the final whistle went, everyone there with Bromley knew it was too little too late. Tooting got the basics right all game. They defended well and didn’t over play or try silly tricks in dangerous areas (something which Bromley’s back line could well learn from). They were stronger in midfield and finished well in front of goal.
