THAME UNITED 4 BROMLEY 1 – LEAGUE 09/02/02

A devastating 9 minute spell of quality attacking football in the second half saw Bromley come away from Windmill Road with nothing.

The first half was pretty evenly contested flowing from end to end, but Bromley went in with the advantage when Gibson volleyed home a looping Myatt corner from 8 yards out. The Ravens could have gone in even further in front when they broke out of defence and were 3 on 2 coming towards the box, but inexplicably the Ref called play back for a stamp by Louis on Harris. The Ref halted the promising attack and then only brandished a yellow card for the offence!

During the break a torrential hail storm fell over the area and play was held up for 5 mins until it had subsided. Thame came out looking hungry and adapted far better to the very wet conditions, eventually drawing level on 60 mins when Merritt fired in low through a crowded penalty area. Bromley looked shaky and flat footed Louis (who could have been sent off for the first half stamp), crashed in an awesome second on 62 mins, Brown turned in a corner on 66 mins and Louis again headed in the fourth on 69! The game was over. McIntyre made three substitutions and Bromley did come back into the play, but missed their chances, with Gibson blasting over after rounding the keeper, McGowan failing to connect with a couple of drives and Lester shooting just wide from distance. The result was a fair one. Thame were solid at the back and found their big front two of Louis and Cort on a regular basis. Jerry Dolke said after the match they were the best forwards he had seen in this Division.

Quote for the game, ‘I’ve got ‘Never Mind the Bollocks’ on the Walkman, it’s the only suitable thing after that display!’
