BROMLEY 1 EGHAM TOWN 2 - LEAGUE 16/11/02

Surely any talk of promotion from the club’s Press Officer must stop after this pathetic home display! Apart from the first 10 mins Bromley were awful and any threat they had up front was dealt with comfortably, especially after Falana had to go off with a hamstring injury soon after the start.

Egham took the lead on 11 mins when Matt Edwards drove a fierce low shot under Martini and it just rolled over the line after going thru him. The momentum shifted to the visitors from that point and on 17 mins Edwards flicked in a cross from the left to make it 0-2, with Martini stranded.

The 4-4-2 formation looked promising on paper, but things were very shaky at the back and weak in midfield. The only chance to score came when Thompson’s overhead kick hit the bar and bounced away.

The second half saw The Ravens start a little brighter with Drewett going close, but Egham had two great opportunities to score when Edwards found himself unmarked twice in the box only to shoot wide on both occasions. Possession was not turned into anything meaningful by Bromley until 66 mins, when Saunders was hauled down challenging for a header from a corner and a penalty was awarded. Sadly Eddie was stretchered off with a bad knee injury, before Myatt drove the kick down the middle and pulled things back to 1-2. Even then an equaliser never really looked on the cards and the game ended with the away fans singing and the home fans heading for the exit.

Quote for the game, ’He’ll blame the fans for not singing!’
