BROMLEY 1 UXBRIDGE 0 – LEAGUE – 17/11/01

It finally happened! The Ravens first league win of the season, after 3 long months. In a hard fought encounter Bromley overcame a very physical Uxbridge side that included former Raven Dean Wordsworth, he looked a shadow of the man that Crystal Palace once paid £25,000 for. The first half saw Bromley have the best of the play, but it was Uxbridge who went closest to scoring with two good chances blazed over the bar and one well saved by Harwood. Dean Thomas went off injured early on, which left Bartley slightly isolated up front, in spite of this Bartley worked himself into the ground for the whole game, but received some very unjust abuse from some of the stand dwellers in the progress!

The second half saw Bromley start the stronger and their pressure finally paid off on 55mins when Drewitt appeared at the back post to volley home a lose ball from a deep cross. Uxbridge then abandoned any attempt at playing football and chose to hack down any Bromley player in sight. The game was stopped several times for treatment to injuries, but strangely the Referee failed to see any of the ‘challenges’ that caused the players to need it. Uxbridge threatened to equalise a couple of times late on from set pieces, but Bromley held on for the 3 points and could have made it more comfortable when Hollidge, Watts and Hughes all spurned chances to score after a fast break from defence. After 10mins injury time the whistle finally sounded and the celebrations began.

This was a well deserved victory for the Ravens and will hopefully be a platform to build on for the rest of the season.

Quote for the game, ‘ I just got a feeling we’ll win today.’
