CORINTHIAN CASUALS 0 BROMLEY 1 – LEAGUE 20/09/03

This was a scrappy uncharming affair played out on a sweltering hot day to the soundtrack of demolition going on behind one goal. All you can say about it is that we won, but it was far from convincing and we had Danny Harwood to thank for saving us late on.

The game started with three really heavy challenges and the trainers in play more than the ball. Gary Drewett came in for a lot of awful treatment from the Casuals, but Bromley players were also guilty of going over the top too. With the Ravens slightly on top of the game they made it count on 33 mins when Tony Reid finally got the goal he has deserved since the start of the season and it was of high quality. He turned sharply in the box and volleyed home from 12 yards giving Roberts no chance at all. This was a rare piece of class in a turgid affair that went on until nearly 4pm before the Ref blew for half time. Casuals had a much better second half and put the Bromley defence under quite a lot of pressure, but even when the stubborn Ravens defence were breached Harwood was equal to all the shots fired at him. Bromley had the occasional flash of class going forward. Mark Hammond and Adolph Amoako made a positive impact when coming off the bench and Reid went close with a header from a great cross carved out by the two subs. Drewett also put in an incredible amount of work and proved to be a valuable outlet from defence. Late on Casuals had a series of corners, which were dealt with well and Harwood made one more great save to secure the three points.
