BROMLEY 1 TOOTING & MITCHAM UTD 0 – LEAGUE 23/09/03

This would have had Macca drooling. We played exactly how he wants us to and we just came out on top in a physical encounter to register our third 1-0 win in a row.

The game started with Bromley having slightly more possession and causing Tooting keeper Dunn a few problems with high balls into the box. On 20 mins though Bromley were reduced to ten men when Joe Vines caught ex-Raven Richard Thompson high and from behind just outside the box. No one could really complain, but worse followed that went unpunished! The tackles continued to fly in on both sides and only 5 mins later Mark Willy was lucky to stay on the pitch when as the last defender he brought down Thompson on the edge of the box. Thompson got up and scored but Ref Gosling called play back and awarded a free kick, showing no card! To rub salt in Tooting’s wounds they scored from the free kick only to have it ruled offside! Bromley had the better of the later stages of the half, but the sides went in level at 0-0.

Macca took Tony Reid off at half time and brought on an extra midfielder in Joe Wade, which left Amoako up front on his own, a role in which he worked tirelessly for the whole of the second 45 mins. On 50 mins a Bromley corner was headed towards goal and Terrors sub Beale handled it in the six yard box. Mr Gosling awarded a penalty, but booked the wrong player for the offence! Amoako stepped up and tucked the spot kick away for 1-0. Bromley improved throughout the half, with Tooting surprisingly poor and not making anything of their numerical advantage. On 80 mins Terrors defender Nwanze was sent off for his second yellow following a bad foul on Drewett who had a great second half. Harwood made a couple of good saves at the feet of Tooting strikers, but in general Bromley’s defence was not troubled. Just before the end Keith Dublin was also lucky not to go off when he took Amoako out waist high and he outpaced the veteran defender. This was a direct, hard tackling affair that the Ravens just deserved to win.

Quote for the game: ‘Every time I come down to Bromley things are just a little more detached from reality!’
