BROMLEY 4 CROYDON 3 – LEAGUE - 26/02/05

After two pitch inspections this game went ahead thanks to the hard work of the ground staff and a band of volunteers working on the pitch for two days prior. Luckily their efforts were rewarded with a seven goal feast and three points for the Ravens that keep hope of the playoffs just about alive.

The game started with Bromley, fielding four new players signed on Thursday, on top and pressing the Trams back. Logan shot over after good work by Amoako and there were several corners before once again Bromley were caught out and went one down. Henriques let a ball run past him and debutant keeper Torcaso was slow off his line, allowing Martin to run in and score on 14 mins. Luckett was on the end of a horrific tackle by Messi, which he was lucky to get back on his feet from. Bromley went close from a corner, before the equaliser finally came on 37 mins when Amoako got the final touch on a good corner. Croydon nearly went into the break in front after Henriques was caught napping again, but Torcaso made a great save to keep it at 1-1.

The second half saw Bromley slow to start. Torcaso made a good save from Wates, but they went behind again on 49 mins when former Raven Ikpa headed home the corner as Bromley’s unfamiliar defence failed to mark up properly. Allan McLeod had an impressive debut at rightwing back and capped it by setting up two goals with good crosses. The first was turned in by Amoako on 54 mins and the second volleyed home by the returning Kevin George on 56 mins to put Bromley in front for the first time 3-2. The Ravens looked the stronger team for a while and made it 4-2 in farcical circumstances on 85 mins when Luckett and Amoako combined on the left before Amoako whipped in a low cross that caught everyone flat footed in the box and sneaked in at the far post, completing the young strikers hat trick! Bromley nearly threw the points away though as the Trams opened the defence up on 89mins for Martin to grab his second goal and in injury time they were denied by a good save from Torcaso. Bromley did hold on though and came out 4-3 winners in a game that was much tougher than it should have been.
