I Am
by Mark Sherrick

I want to write a poem about
how I am now, and look back at it
some day and laugh about
how strange I was
back when i was younger, or think
about it and decide that
I’m just as strange when I’m
35 or 45 or
however old I am when I read
the poem again, then when I write another
poem when I’m older, I’m going to compare
the two of them and see how strange I still am,
or how normal I’ve become because of
having to get a real job and work with normal people
every day.
