I Had My Moment
by Mark Sherrick

August fourth, nineteen ninety eight
I’m standing on a chair
Its just before eleven at night
People are all around me
In every direction
A band is onstage playing
Their encore
A song entitled “Yours”
I’m still standing on the chair
Looking in all directions
Listening to the song
With tears streaming down
My face-but I wasn’t sad
After the show was over
I wondered why
I had cried
I realized that they were tears of life
From feeling connected with the others
September twenty fourth, nineteen ninety eight
I’m no longer standing on a chair
Yet I still remember how it was...
