What's the story behind BSB's colorful new CD? Howie's here to give you the exclusive behind-the-scenes scoop!

What a week - you and your buds are probably still celebrating the big B-Day! No, we're not talking about your birthday, we're talking about Backstreet Boys Day, when their latest and greatest CD, Black & Blue, went on sale. Yippee! Cheering right along with you for this follow-up to their megahot 1999 sophomore album, Millennium, are swoonworthy songsters A.J. McLean, 22; Howie Dorough, 27; Nick Carter, 20; Kevin Richardson, 29; and Brian Littrell, 25. BB recently caught up with Howie, who couldn't wait to tell us about the making of the CD, including some special secrets, for your ears only!

Break It Down

"It's exciting," Sweet D raves about their new rhythms, including their first single, "Shape of My Heart." "We did a lot of writing on the CD, but not all of it because writing is still very new to us." Not only that, but the guys went to lengths to unlock their heartfelt tunes for you. "We took two weeks down in the Bahamas, and we wrote about six songs - just the five of us," Howie grins. "We said, 'no girlfriends, no wives and no family.' We wanted just the five of us to get away. It was like a bonding moment." Awww!

Once these talented tunesters finished up their intense writing session, they brought their musical magic back into the studio and went to work again. "It took us a little over two months to record it," Howie notes. But, inquiring BSB minds want to know: What are BSB's new beats all about? "Well, it's a little bit more edgy than Millennium," Howie analyzes. "We have a couple of songs that have a little bit of a hip-hop sound, but we have about seven songs that have an 'I Don't Want You Back' sound, taken to the next level. Plus, we have some good ballads as well." And if you listen very closely, Howie dishes, you can hear Nick banging away on the drums and Kev tickling the piano keys in selected tunes! (Now that's the way we want it!)

But here's the best news of all - Howie reveals that he and the fellas are taking their toe-tappin' tunes on the road! "We are going to try to start up our tour in the last week of January," he dishes. Yeah! Tickets to the next Backstreet Boys concert - noww that's a great topper for your holiday wish list, don't you think? Let's hear it for the boys!
