Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the past year, you know the Backstreet Boys have a fab flair for singing. After all, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, A.J. McLean and Kevin Richardson have been wowing concert crowds around the world with their silky voices. And their 1999 album Millennium has been more popular than popsicles all through this long, hot summer!
But singing isn't the adorable babes' only talent. Nick, it turns out, happens to be a pretty amazing artist, too. Since his kid days, the 19-year-old songster's been a wiz with a pad of paper and a pencil--a gift he inherited from his mom, Jane. "My mom is great at painting, but I got more into drawing," Nick tells BB. "I've got a lot of sketches. Actually, I have a few comics that I do." Adds his Backstreet bud Brian, "Nick is writing a comic book. It's our life story, and he has comic book characters of all of us. It's very cool!"
Nick isn't the Backstreet Boys' only artist. A.J. tells BB he's also way into art--culinary art, that is! The twinkly-eyed talent has spent so many hours experimenting with recipes in his kitchen that he can now make the yummiest meals you've ever tasted. "I make some wicked spaghetti," boasts the 21-year-old cook. "I make it from scratch. I even made the pasta from scratch once. It's really good."
Brian, thanks to a high-school job making fish dishes at a Long John Silver's restaurant, may be a pretty good cook, too. However, his groupmates confide to BB, this 24-year-old funny fella's real flair is for stand-up comedy. "I do love make people laugh," Brian concedes. "I'm Mr. Jim Carrey of the Backstreet Boys." Friends giggle 'til their sides hurt at Brian's wacky jokes and hilariously on-target imitations of cartoon characters like Donald Duck. "It's something that I've been doing ever since I was little," B-Rok reveals.
Meanwhile, ever since he was little, Brian's cousin Kevin has enjoyed ballroom dancing. "My mother and father used to win dance contests doing the jitterbug, and they taught me to do it," shares the sure-footed fella. Kev became so good at the jitterbug--not to mention the waltz, foxtrot and other classic steps--that he eventually nabbed a job as a ballroom dance instructor! "I used to teach swing and cha-cha and stuff like that," the 27-year-old tells us.
If you didn't know that, then we betcha didn't know Howie could teach you some Spanish. The guapo guy (that's Spanish for good-lookin') studied this language in high school and college, and perfected his accent by chatting with his mom, Paula, a native of Puerto Rico. "I've even tried to influence the guys to translate a couple of our songs into Spanish," the 25-year-old songster reveals. Sounds like Howie--and all his groupmates--could help you develop some new talents of your own!
