Trivia

Today's question was:

Does the word BEASTIE stand for anything? If so, what?

And the answer is...

According to Mike D., BEASTIE stands for Boys Entering Anarchistic States Towards Internal Excellence.

Congratulations. Now you can impress your friends with your newfound B-Boy knowledge.

How many times was Check Your Head sequenced before the final track order was established?

And the answer is...

According to Mario Caldato, the album was sequenced seven times.

Today's question was:

What are the only two movies ever made that feature all three B-Boys?

And the answer is...

Krush Groove (1985) and a Run-DMC movie called Tougher Than Leather (1988).

Today's question was:

Who were the four original members of the Beastie Boys?

And the answer is...

Way back in the early 1980's, when the Beasties were a small-time punk band in New York, they consisted of Michael Diamond on vocals, Adam Yauch on bass, John Berry on guitar and Kate Schellenbach on drums. If you also said that Kate Schellenbach is now the drummer for Luscious Jackson, give yourself a Scoobie snack.

Today's question was:

Which of the Beastie Boys are married, and what are their wives' names? (Scoobie snack bonus: what are their wives' occupations?)

And the answer is...

Mike D. is married to Tamra Davis, and Adrock is married to Ione Skye. For the Scoobie snack, Tamra Davis is a film director and Ione Skye is an actress. (Ione recently appeared in the movie Four Rooms, and is referred to in Get It Together: "Adrock's down with the Ione / Listen to the shit cuz both of them is bony.")

However, there's been a rumor circulating in Beastie land recently that Ione and Adrock broke up. And to make things even worse for our hero Adam Horovitz, it's also rumored that Ione is now a lesbian, and dating some chick from Bikini Kill. Crazy stuff -- but don't forget, these rumors aren't verified. (4/21/97)

Today's question was:

Without looking at the Check Your Head liner notes, who did the Beasties dedicate Check Your Head to, and why?

And the answer is...

Today's question was:

During their set at the Tibetan Freedom Concert in San Francisco on June 15, 1996, the Beastie Boys covered one song by another band. What was the name of the song and the band who wrote it?

And the answer is...

They covered a punk song called "Red Tape," by the Circle Jerks.

Today's question was:

The Beastie Boys recently played a series of all-punk shows at small clubs under an assumed name. What name did they play under?

And the answer is...

The Beasties played shows at Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and elsewhere under the fake name of Quasar.
