Convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, whose fight for a new trial has been championed by Rage Against the Machine, the Beastie Boys, David Byrne and Sting, among other artists, lost a U.S. Supreme Court appeal Monday (Oct. 4), according to wire service reports. The court rejected Abu-Jamal's claims that he didn't get a fair trial, according to the reports. Prosecutors can now set an execution date for Abu-Jamal, but he has not exhausted his appeals, according to the Associated Press. Abu-Jamal and his supporters maintain he was framed in the 1981 shooting of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner.
