What's been happening in PAY*OLA?

What's New?  February 2000

Alright Everyone! We just got back from Liverpool where we spent 4 days recording at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) - the two tracks in question being "What Drives You?" and "Climbing up the Walls". We also recorded an instrumental version of "This is not a Drill" for the closing credits of the forthcoming documentary "Ferry Tales" on BBC1 network TV. If the tracks end up sounding good enough, they could well end up being used on our next release.

We also conducted some interesting experiments in heavy drinking - indeed if you are ever in Liverpool, visit the "Ba-bar" where a beer plus shooter costs a grand £1.50 (Mondays & Tuesdays). Later that night, Phil was punched by a girl called Brian - long story! We also played an acoustic gig in a bar called "The Pilgrim".

The most nerve wrecking part of our trip was when we visited the studios of "Planet Wild" to view the finished edit of our episode of the BBC1 "Ferry Tales" documentary. We were greeted with the brilliant news that instead of having 15 minutes in a 2 story episode, they've devoted the entire 30 minutes to us. We also learned that the show will also be shown on RTE, and they are expecting around 6 MILLION viewers in the UK alone. HOLY SHIT! We laughed our bollocks off during the entire viewing, though more through nervous exhaustion than it actually being funny. It does make entertaining TV though - and we'll keep you up to date on the broadcast time.

The band have recently done a number of acoustic sessions for television and Radio. The band played 'Stick 2 Fingers Up' and 'Live a Little' acoustically for the '11th hour' on BBC CHOICE. The band also did an acoustic session for MIKE EDGAR'S Radio Show on Radio Ulster where they played 'When you leave' and 'Live a Little' which is to be broadcast at a later date - so watch out for that one. The 'Stick 2 Fingers Up E.P' has also been playlisted for COOL FM where the band also did an interview for JOE FERGUSON'S radio show as well as being played on many other radio stations such as CITYBEAT, DOWNTOWN as well getting the E.P played on 'THE JAMES WHALE RADIO SHOW' on TALK RADIO. The band also did an acoustic session and interview for JOHN BENNETT's show on Radio Ulster which is broadcast to around 200,000 listeners!

It's now time to book the "2 Fingers" tour, and get our backsides around the country to do some rocking. We'd like your help with this - if there is a venue near you that you think would be suitable for an extremely hot and sweaty evening then please e-mail us at Payola_rocks@hotmail.com and let us know. Also, if you have any favorite PAY*OLA songs that you think we should record - tell us - we're an extremely obliging bunch!

See you sometime soon

love PAY*OLA.

"I am glad that there are still bands like PAY*OLA still around, to renew our faith on the rock'n'roll dream. And I am proud that this record is the first of a few to keep the spirit of Good Vibrations alive. PAY*OLA kick ass" - Terri Hooley
