BEATLES PUT RECORD STRAIGHT

Paul McCartney, 2000John Lennon, 1968It wasn't Paul, after all.

The surviving members of the Beatles have revealed it was John Lennon, rather than Paul McCartney, who was the first to quit the band, spurring their break-up in 1970.

In The Beatles Anthology - excerpts of which were published in Britain's Sunday Telegraph - Sir Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr aim to set the record straight about the band's journey from Liverpool teenagers to rock legends.

The book, to be published in Britain and the US in October, took the trio six years to compile.

McCartney, 58, Harrison, 57 and Starr, 60, collected 1200 photos, mostly unpublished, for the book.
