"I love the show but rehearsal for me is always the worst," the former Beatle said.
"We have to get to know each other. We have to rehearse long hours."
"It takes that in my case, so you're really comfortable when we're doing the show."
"I don't think people should pay money to come watch us rehearse."
The tour of 29 US cities runs from 12 May to 1 July.
It will include bass guitarist Jack Bruce from Cream, singer Eric Carmen from the Raspberries, guitarist Dave Edmunds, drummer Simon Kirke and saxophonist Mark Rivera.
Starr, 59, is among several 50-plus rockers hitting the road this summer for a tour.
"We're blessed we're still alive. Blessed people would like to come and see us," he said.
