The tragic loss of John Lennon 20 years ago is still being felt today.
In Melbourne, devoted fans such as Simon Smith still regret that when Lennon's life was cut short, so too was the potential for any more music quite like the former Beatle's.
"I think the thing that people still mourn most is the fact that the Beatles could never get back together and continue to make music," Mr Smith, 29, said.
Today, fans all over the world are remembering the day Lennon was shot.
Mr Smith is a diehard fan of the group, has worked on a Beatles radio program and owns an extensive collection of albums, pictures and rare, unreleased footage.
He describes Lennon as the "most interesting and enigmatic musician of the '60s".
"He was a timeless songwriter who was brilliant creating both rock 'n' roll and the most heartfelt ballads imaginable," he said.
