THE FAB FOUR? THERE'S JUST NO COMPETITION

The Beatles: no comparisons necessaryWhy, why, why do the media always compare pop groups to the Beatles? Newpapers in particular are forever putting boy bands, or even girl bands, on pedestals by saying, for example, Westlife "are well on their way to matching the Beatles" (Daily Express, 18 December).

The Beatles were phenomenal. They were unique and should not be compared with modern bands. They played their own instruments and wrote their own songs; whereas the boy bands and girl bands are manufactured and, most of the time, possess no talent at all.

Some say that Paul, John, George and Ringo were not particularly good singers, but they had a certain something that no other group will ever match. Unless these new groups have got what it takes, then, sadly, they will end up just like the bands which were claimed to be the new phenomenon years ago, like Take That, now gone and forgotten. Unlike the Beatles, of course...
