BEATLE'S $300m FORTUNE

George Harrison is believed to have amassed a personal fortune estimated at $300 million at the time of his death.

Although details of his will are not expected to be revealed for some time, it is understood that most of this money will go to Harrison's widow, Olivia, and their son, Dhani, 23.

Part of his estate may have been left to the Hare Krishna religious sect.

Harrison donated a manor house to the Krishnas in 1973.

The former Beatles lead guitarist owns a 120 room Gothic mansion at Henley-on-Thames, outside London, that is believed to be worth as much as $50 million.

His other real estate holdings include property on Hamilton Island, on the Great Barrier Reef, and in Hawaii.

In the 1980s, Harrison was reputedly offering $4 million to buy Titan Island, a small coral island with just one house, near Hamilton Island.

Harrison's wealth is dwarfed by that of Paul McCartney, who has had a much more successful solo career and is reputed to be worth more than $2 billion.

But he still ranks 268th on the British rich list.

Harrison's other business interests include the film company Handmade Films and he helped finance the Eric Idle movie Life Of Brian to the tune of $12 million. It went on to make $120 million.

Handmade produced a number of successful films in the 1980s, including the cult classic Withnail And I.

In recent times, Harrison's wealth has been boosted by the phenomenal world wide success of a compilation of the Beatles' number one songs.

Harrison organised a big charity concert for Bangladesh in 1971, but it was dogged by legal and tax problems, many of which Harrison ended up paying for himself.
