Hamilton Island residents and visitors who knew George Harrison yesterday paid tribute to the former Beatle who died on Thursday.
Harrison owned a home on Let's Be Avenue, on the eastern side of the island in Queensland's Whitsunday island group.
The home, built in 1984, was the second private residence to be built on Hamilton after that of developer Keith Williams.
Harrison last visited the island in March 1999 for a two week stay.
A close colleague of 11 years, who declined to be named, said he hoped the island would erect a memorial to Harrison.
"I'll ask around and see what we can do," the colleague said. Harrison kept a low profile when he visited he said.
The colleague said Let's Be Avenue was a quiet retreat from chaotic Los Angeles.
"Around his house he had little seating areas and used to meditate in his own meditation room and sit back and relax and just take time out," he said.
