Paul McCartney said today there was a "good chance" he would marry his girlfriend Heather Mills but insisted the pair were not yet engaged and declined to set a date.
Chatting to reporters at Cannes, where he is promoting the Wings Greatest Hits album, the 58-year-old former Beatle said he and the 33-year-old former swimwear model would make the decision in their own time.
"There is a chance I may get married again, but that is a decision we will make in private and only then will we make it public," he said.
"It is quite embarrassing when people come up to me in the street and say congratulations."
"I can say here and now we are not engaged, but there is a good chance I will get married in the furture."
McCartney lost his first wife Linda to cancer in 1998. They had been married for 29 years,
He declared his love for Mills on television last year after the pair had met while working on a charity single aimed at raising money for people who had lost limbs in war zones.
Mills lost her left leg below the knee in an accident with a police motorcycle in 1993.
McCartney, who was also unveiling some previously unseen footage of his family during the Wings years, said Mills preferred his second musical incarnation to the Beatles.
The Beatles split in 1970 when Mills was a toddler, but she became a huge fan of the group McCartney formed in the 1970s with Linda.
"It is a generation thing... I will go so far as to say she is a massive Wings fan," he said.
