BLUE JAY WAY
(Harrison)
1967

"Blue Jay Way" was the name of a street in Los Angeles where George and
Patti had rented a house during the summer. George wrote the track while he
waited for his friend, journalist and former Beatles press officer Derek
Taylor, to arrive from London. Taylor was delayed, but no wanting to go to
bed until his arrival, George wrote the song to keep himself awake.

George plays all the instruments except a cello. Paul joined him for the
backing vocals. The track features, among other technological devices, an
early appearance of the automatic double tracking (ADT) machine devised by
Abbey Road's Ken Townshend.

There's a fog upon LA and my friends have lost their way
"We'll be over soon" they said, now they've lost themselves instead

Please don't be long, please don't you be very long
Please don't be long, for I may be asleep

Well it only goes to show and I told them where to go
Ask a policeman on the street, there's so many there to meet

Please don't be long, please don't you be very long
(Don't be long, don't be long)
Please don't be long, for I may be asleep

Now it's passed my bed I know (oh)
And I'd really like to go (go)
Soon will be the break of day (day)
Sitting here in Blue Jay Way (Way)

Please don't be long, please don't you be very long
(Don't be long, don't be long)
Please don't be long, for I may be asleep

Please don't be long, please don't you be very long
Please don't be long

Please don't be long, please don't you be very long
Please don't be long

Please don't be long, please don't you be very long
Please don't be long

Don't be long, don't be long, don't be long, don't be long

Don't be long, don't be long, don't be long
