JULIA
(Lennon-McCartney)
1968

On the surface, John Lennon's "Julia" seems to be written about his mother
who had been killed in a car accident in 1968. However, some of the phrases
used are clearly inspired by his new love Yoko Ono. Her name in Japanese
means "child of the ocean". John sings and plays the acoustic guitar. Donovan had taught him fingerpicking techniques while at Rishikesh.

Half of what I say is meaningless but I say it just to reach you Julia
Julia, Julia ocean child calls me
So I sing a song of love Julia
Julia seashell eyes windy smile calls me
So I sing a song of love Julia

Her hair of floating sky is shimmering glimmering in the sun

Julia, Julia morning moon touch me
So I sing a song of love Julia
When I cannot sing my heart I can only speak my mind Julia
Julia, Julia sleeping sand silent cloud touch me
So I sing a song of love Julia
Mm calls me
So I sing a song of love for Julia
Julia, Julia
