Asleep At The Wheel Gang

Brent Burns, The Leader of the Gang

While TRACE was thriving, I was also involved in the production of several 45's for Pantheon Records, produced by Brent Burns (the members of the Grapes of Wrath have always loomed large in each other's legends!) and Dennis Alexander. These were country singles, all of which charted in Billboard and Cashbox. The Asleep At The Wheel Gang backed either Bobby So-Fine Butler or Brent Burns and titles included Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Welcome To My World Of Love, The Winter Of '77 and The Ballad Of Teddy Toad. No Crude, No Food was also released on RIVER Records, based in Nashville. On these sessions I played either bass, piano or guitar and sang backup vocals.

An offshoot of the Pantheon project was a session at Lee Furr Studios in Tucson that involved TRACE backing Brent Burns on two selections, Bull Shortage and one of my songs, Three O'Clock In The Morning. There was also a series of sessions at Audio Recorders in Phoenix, once again backing Brent Burns and featuring "members" of The Asleep At The Wheel Gang, and titles recorded included It's A Good Morning, I've Just Seen A Face, Those Hippies Took The Fightin' Out Of Me and Long Hard Road To Nowhere.
