» CHAPTER ONE «
I awoke to the familiar annoying beeping of the alarm clock...
"Damn, that seven hours flew by..." I was still dead tired because I kept having the same nightmare. I'd wake up then when I fell asleep again the nightmare would be there waiting to consume me. Over and over again.
I got up and walked into my closet to find something to wear over to Ashlyn's house. Ashlyn or Ash is the closest person I have to a mother... my parents died when I was fourteen in a drive by. I got over it quickly though... I would die if I didn't. You had to be strong to live in L.A. I got accustomed to the sirens, the yells, screams... everything.
After I thought my life couldn't get any worse I ran into a young man that was really good to me... He told me to get to get out of L.A. He said that it wasn't a place for a girl to grow up... He was right. Two weeks after he talked to me I left California in search of better things... I found my better life in Orlando. I was walking around when Ashlyn saw me... she took me in and gave me what I needed until I got on my feet. It didn't take long... With a lot of fighting I was finally able to get the money that my parents had left in their will... I guess the system felt sorry for me but knew I could take care of myself so they gave me the money and a drivers license and I was on my own. Ashlyn offered for me to live with her but I told her that I would enjoy living alone more. She understood... She's still like a mother though. Whenever I have a problem or I'm sad I can go to her. She's always been there.
Even when my parents were alive they treated me like sh*t. Going off getting drunk. Leaving me to the one bedroom apartment trying to survive on food that went bad weeks ago. I always wondered why they didn't use the money I got from their will to live a better life. I guess they were too stupid to remember that they had money. But hey, I'm glad they were like that though. If it weren't for their stupidity I wouldn't have the house that I have now. It looks too expensive for a 16 year old to own. But it's possible.
I slipped into some loose fitting black jeans and a black tank top. Forgetting socks I stepped into my black combat boots and laced them up. Putting on a silver ring I grabbed my keys and walked out of the bedroom.
20 minuets later I arrived at Ash's house and let myself in. I was met with the sound of TLC's FanMail album.
"Ash???" ...no answer. "Yo ASHLYN!!! WHERE ARE YA!"
"Sorry Sky... I was in the kitchen talking to some guests." Right then five guys walked out of the kitchen. One I recognized to be the young man that helped me out in California. He walked over and introduced himself.
"Hey I'm AJ. Do I know ya?"
"Yeah... You helped me out in California a while back. Thanks by the way. It helped a lot."
"No problem. I couldn't help but notice a beautiful girl in trouble so I had to offer my help." That comment made me blush.
"Thanks." The other four guys walked up and introduced themselves as the Backstreet Boys. I knew I recognized them. WOW! The Backstreet Boys are standing in front of me!
For about and hour we all hung around and got to know more about each other. We were in a heated game of Truth or Dare... Well not really, when Ash told us to get our butts moving.
"Why? I was having fun!"
"Because... we're going to a club! Did you think this was all you were doing for your birthday?"
"Yeah? Why are we going this early?"
"Because I reserved it for the whole day! Everyone we know will be there. Now come on girl!" Ash said laughing as she escorted us out the door and to our cars. This was gonna be one great birthday!
