» CHAPTER SIX «

~ AJ ~

 She is so beautiful. What does she have to be jealous about? I don't know what she sees in Brian other than that he's the one who the girls usually pick. I wish she'd look at me that way. Who am I kidding? She only thinks about me as a brother.

"Well, she's so pretty. I'm not as pretty as her," Amanda replied.

"Don't say that. You're beautiful. Why would you say a thing like that?" I looked in her beautiful blue eyes.

"I don't know whether Brian likes me or not. It scares me sometimes thinking that I feel for him more than he feels for me." Amanda's eyes showed some sorrow and fright.

"Girl, don't worry. If it doesn't work out for you and Brian, I'm always here," I said.

"Thanks," she said, thinking it was a joke.

"I meant that," I stated.

Her smile disappeared, and confused and worried creases showed up on her forehead.

~ Amanda ~

 I looked at him. Was he serious? I mean, he's everything a girl could hope for, except I wanted Brian. I had a crush on him long ago, but it's gone now. I can only think of him as a brother, not anything more. Not with how I feel for Brian.

"Sorry," AJ apologized after an uncomfortable silence between us.

"AJ, if I didn't like Brian like I do, you'd be the one I'd be after. Trust me, it's not you, it's me. I don't know what I see in Brian. There's just something there." I looked over at Brian again and then back at AJ.

"I hope what I said won't affect our friendship," AJ said.

"Nothing ever will," I said.

We got closer for a slow song.

~ Brian ~

 I watched from the counter as AJ and Amanda got closer for a slow song. I looked away with a twinge of pain and jealousy. AJ had already told me how he felt about her. I felt the same way, if not more, about her. Of course AJ was attracted to her, but I was falling in love with her.

"What am I gonna do?" I asked myself.

"Frick, what's wrong?" Nick sat down next to me.

"Frack, you're my best friend. You're also the brother of my other best friend. Could you keep a secret?" I looked at him.

"Sure, bud."

"I'm falling in love with your sister."

"What?" Nick looked at me. "BJ?"

"No. Amanda. I'm falling in love with her." I sighed as I watched AJ dance with her.

"You better start making your move. AJ might beat ya to it." Nick put his arm on my shoulder.

"I'm not gonna just run in with both feet. I need to go slow. I want to make sure this doesn't mess up our friendship." I looked at my hands sadly. "I think AJ already beat me."

"Well, don't act so sad. Here they come," Nick warned me as Amanda and AJ walked up to us hand-in-hand.

~ Amanda ~

 I noticed a sadness about Brian. I wanted to ask him about it, but it was the wrong time.

Another slow song started. I realized they were playing "Invisible Man".

"Brian, would you like to dance?" I asked before I could stop myself.

"If you'd like." Brian cheered up a little.

As we got on the dance floor, we got close. I closed my eyes and breathed in the scent of his freshly washed hair and the scent of his cologne. The smell was so familiar and fresh, it made silent tears roll down my cheeks thinking about how much I loved that smell.

The song ended. When we pulled apart, Brian noticed my tears.

~ Brian ~

 I noticed the tears on her cheeks. Without having to say a word, we both walked outside.

"Can we talk?" Amanda asked in a trembling voice.

I took her hand and led her to the van. We both realized that was the best place to speak privately. Once inside the van, I watched her as she looked at her hands in her lap.

"Brian. I need to know something." Amanda cleared her throat as she fought the tears. "Are you my best friend?"

"Yes. Why?"

Her tear-filled blue eyes looked directly into mine. Every tear that fell down her cheek tore at my heart.

"Do you love me?" she finally choked out.

"Amanda..." I realized that was the wrong thing to say as soon as it came out.

"Answer me," she said more firmly as tears began to spill down her face.

Tears filled my own eyes. "Yes," I said as I choked back more tears.

"You do?" Amanda asked.

"Yes. I love you." I couldn't hold back the tears anymore.

~ Amanda ~

 I couldn't take it anymore. I wrapped my arms around his neck and sobbed. I could feel his body shake with mine.

"Brian," I said as I tried to stop crying. "I have to tell you...." I began to cry again.

Brian held me and rocked me while I cried.

"Brian, I....I-I love you," I choked out.

Brian stopped rocking me. I looked up into his eyes and saw a deep love in them. Then, they grew sad.

"Why did you ignore me?" Brian sounded hurt.

"I was fighting my feelings for you. AJ and I had a talk about it. I couldn't deny it anymore when we were dancing." I searched his eyes for forgiveness.

I smiled when he eyes began to sparkle.

"I thought I did something wrong," Brian laughed.

"You've never done anything wrong."

We sat there for five more minutes just to make sure we didn't look like we had cried. Then, we both walked into the club hand-in-hand.

~ Brian ~

 I was so happy. I still couldn't quite get over the shock, but I was happy.

Amanda and I got on the dance floor as another slow song began. "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You" played as we looked into each other's eyes. We both sang the last line to each other as the song ended and knew we meant it.

"I need some water," Amanda said.

"Me, too." I took her hand and led her to the drink bar. "Two waters," I ordered as I took out a five with my free hand.

Amanda took her water, I took mine, and we headed over to the table where the other guys were. AJ was flirting with Amanda's long time friend Shelli and Kevin was with his date Robin, Amanda's other long time friend.

"Feeling better?" Nick whispered as I sat down next to him.

I flashed him a big smile. Then, I lightly kicked Amanda's foot from under the table. She looked up startled, then smiled and laughed.

"Much," I finally answered Nick's question.

"So, did you beat him?" He looked at me.

"By a landslide." I looked at AJ and Shelli. "Besides, he loves Shelli. We all know it."

"Didn't I tell you my sister would come around?"

"Hey, I didn't need an 'I told you so' yet." I laughed when Howie almost tripped on his own foot. "9.5, very graceful. No fall."

"Shut up," Howie said.

The club played our newest single "It's Gotta Be You". Amanda and I both got up, and walked out onto the dance floor.

~ Amanda ~

 He looked so adorable as we danced. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't hide his little boy face. To me, his face made him sexy and adorable at the same time.

"What? Do I have something on my face?" Brian asked.

"No, no. I was just admiring, that's all. Don't worry, sweety. I'd tell you if you had something on your face." I smiled when he did.

He pulled me close for a little spin. We were split apart by Nick. I quickly kicked him in the butt. All three of us laughed as we danced the night away.

There was only one slow song the rest of the night that I didn't dance with Brian. Every slow song was for Brian except for one time when I was asked by Nick.

"Sugar," Brian called as we all left the club.

"What?" I asked as I waited for him.

"Well, I didn't want to walk alone." Brian took my hand and gave me a quick kiss on the lips.

I shivered as a chill went down my spine.

"Are you cold, baby?" he asked as he put his arm around my shoulders.

"A little." I put my arm around his waist and cuddled to keep warm.

We got into the van. Brian got in first and sat by the window in the very back. I sat down next to him and snuggled up against his body under his warm and protective arms.

"Geez. I never realized how buff your arms actually are." I yawned.

"What time is it?"

"Two in the morning," AJ answered.

"Everybody's crashing at my place, right?" Nick asked.

"Yeah," we all answered.

"Well, your answer doesn't count," Nick told me.

"I was answering for Rok."

"He's his own man. He knows how to talk." AJ laughed when I stuck my tongue out at him.

"Oh, Rok. Remind me that I have a gift to give you when we get to my house," I said as I looked at him.

"No problem, Sugar."

I got so comfortable wrapped in his arms, that I fell asleep.
