» CHAPTER FOUR «
When he awoke, the first thing he noticed was his strange surroundings. He was in a modernized room. Futuristic furniture was scattered about. He seemed to be laying on a couch. "At last, you are awake," a soft majestic voice observed.
Brian turned to see a woman in a shimmering opaque dress. The light blonde, almost white hair seemed to be a halo around her head. "Who..." his voice cracked as if it hadn't been used in a long time.
"Don't speak. You will regain your strength in time." Her voice was whimsical. Brian watched her almost glide across the floor to a small table. She picked something up and brought it back to him. "Here, I believe it's been some time since you last ate." She held the food up to his lips. He hesitated for a second before eating it. Sweetness filled his mouth. It was nothing like he had ever tasted.
After Brian swallowed, he asked, "Where am...."
"I told you not to speak. I will tell you in due time. Now rest." She gently covered him with a blanket. "You have hard times ahead of you, you must regain your energy if you are to survive thorough them.
"But I...."
"No more words." She soothed his matted hair and began to hum a melody Brian had never heard before. Her voice was music itself and the song danced around him and buried it's way into his soul. He had never heard a more pleasant song in all his life. To his dismay, he drifted into a deep slumber before the song was finished.

The two beings watched from the side as the bandmates clustered around Brian. The blonde cradled Brian's head in his lap as another one checked his vitals. The tall built one, they had learned was Brian's cousin, lifted the lifeless body up and carried him to a couch in the back room. A damp cloth was placed on Brian's brow.
"Damnit! This is not good! Cheste must have gotten to him," the older swore in the ancient language.
"Will she tell him everything?"
"Most likely."
Kevin looked up an to the general direction of the two beings. However he saw nothing but air.
"Can he hear us?" the second one asked.
"He knows something is here. He can't understand us though. Most likely he'll pass us off as a figment of his imagination. He is related to Brian, however he does not have the complete gene. He will be of no help to us."
"Once Brian comes back we must speed up the process. I believe we have learned enough."
"Yes, we have. We set the plan in motion the day after he awakens. Keep in mind we'll have to appeal to both his human characteristics and the Nyton ones." The first being smiled as the plan began to take shape.

Brian slowly opened his eyes and looked around. He felt disoriented and weak. He saw the woman approach him again. 'How does always she know when I'm awake?' Brian wondered.
"That's the thing about you Humans, you don't realize that there are other beings out there that are superior to you in intellect." She shook her head sadly.
"Wha...." Brian was confused.
"This doesn't apply to you dear. Here, let me get you something to eat and drink and I will explain anything you want to know." She glided to the tray and brought it over to a small table next to the couch. "Don't worry, they appeal to your human organs."
Brian tentatively reached out to the tray and took an item off of it, much like a small child reaching out to take a forbidden cookie. He slowly tasted it and eagerly grabbed for more. She laughed at his boyish attitude. The man before her was in his 20's at yet to her, he was still very much a child. She still had to explain the universe to him and guide him.
After Brian had finished his meal, he looked up at her. "Who are you? What are you? You can't be human because A, no human I ever saw looked like you and B, humans don't make comments about things 'appealing to human organs.'"
She sighed. There was enough air that escaped from her lips that it ruffled his hair a little. She took a seat on a chair, her hair settling perfectly around her shoulders and the dress shifted against her body so it still fit her like a second skin. "It is hard to explain to you. You grew up with humans and they filled your mind with little knowledge and concepts that only exist on Earth. You are right, I am not human, I am a Fetra. My biological makeup is similar to yours, although... what's the word I'm looking for? ...The best word in your primitive language it humanoid.
"My name is Cheste, daughter of Mehatra and Tropehanan. Those names may sound odd to you, but where I come from, they are quite... normal."
"Why are you telling me this?" Brian was confused.
"You wanted to know, and it's about time you learned the whole story to who you are. Also, I understand you know you're part Nyton," Cheste said.
"What's Nyton?"
She took another deep sigh and began again. "The Nytons are another race in the universe. They aren't humanoids, they are ...we'll call them shifters. There is no good word in your language that explains it. I understand you know the ancient language of the Nytons, however, I do not know that well enough, so I will stick to what is it you Earthlings call it again? English? Yes, I believe that's it. English is the easiest language I've had to learn to date.
"Back to your origin. I shall start with your mother's ancestry. Back thousands of years ago, there was a great galactic war. Many star systems were involved and many great beings died. Think of Earth's own...," Cheste paused thinking for a minute, "World War. How a planet's inhabitants can turn on itself is still beyond me, but mistakes do happen." Brian appeared somewhat offended, but she took no notice and continued on. "The Nytons and us, the Fetrans were the main opposing sides in the war. The war ended and all the systems involved were left in shambles. I'm not quite sure when the transition happened, but you know of your second World War?" Brian nodded. "How, what's that man's name that killed all those people? Sh*t! I should have studied your planet's history a little better." This was the first time Brian saw her looking some what distressed.
"Hitler and he went after the Jews, along with many others," Brian supplied.
"Thank you. Well, the Nytons began their own genocide against another race they blamed for the war. It was during this time that your mother was born...."
"Wait, my mother's a Nyton?! She's not human?!" Brian exclaimed.
"Will you calm down and listen." Her whimsical voice soothed him instantly. People had told Brian that he had the voice of an angel. He now declared that none have heard an angel until they heard this woman. "Your mother disagreed with the genocide. At the time, and even now, Earth is a neutral place. We have an arrangement with your planet for political refugees. There was a movie made on your planet a few years ago, amazingly, you were closer to the truth then you realized. I wouldn't be surprised if the director himself wasn't human. Anyway, your mother's personal agreement was to change into her human form and leave any trace on her being a Nyton behind. She was never to speak of it and she had to stay in human form until the day she died.
"While on Earth, she started a new life as a human. She met a man, got married and they bore two children; you and your brother. Please understand that although you mother is in human form and is in every aspect human, she is still 100% Nyton. I'm sure you understand basic biology and inherited genes." Brian nodded as he soaked in all the information he had just learned. "Your father is 100% human. That makes both you and your brother 50% Nyton each, as far as genetics are concerned.
"Back to the genocide. Once the other races found out what the Nytons were doing, another galactic war started. Well, another race started to take the Nytons as prisoners of war. However, later on that race, the name can't be translated into your language, began to go farther then that. Between the casualties and the killings from the other race, the Nytons were just about extinct. Through the years, the last of them have gone into hiding and there can't be more then 100 throughout the universe, if that. Spies have told us that all the remaining Nytons gathered recently and they have a major problem."
"What would that be..." Brian interrupted.
"Well, all the males went off to war, leaving the females at home. As a result, the only remaining Nytons are females. Their race is headed for extinction unless they can do something about it.
"Somehow they pulled your mother's file up. Although you and your brother are half Nyton, half human, you are the only male Nytons left. Let me correct myself, you are the only male Nyton. Somehow, your brother's genes were altered, so he is more human then Nyton, and therefore they can't use him."
"So what you're saying is...." Brian wasn't sure he wanted to hear her answer.
"They want to... well, for lack of a better term, mate with you," Cheste replied as gently as possible.
"What?!" Brian seethed.
"I believe you heard me correctly." Her soothing voice calmed him a little.
"So you're saying that they want to meet me just have sex with me so they can save their race which killed everyone... AHHH!" Brian's outburst ended with a scream of pain. He doubled over. His head was throbbing and his stomach churned and his heart felt like it would explode.
"I was afraid of this," Cheste sighed.
